It's been a while since I've been online. Life has gotten a bit real over the last few years. It's been nearly 4 years since I moved to the Scottish Highlands intending to only stay for one month before following my dream of joining the Merchant Navy and completing a cadetship.Well ...my plans changed !I stayed & I regret nothing.I have lived a million times more than I ever would have if I had of left here.
I've spent nearly 4 years working as a Bosun onboard a 200- Tonne luxe moter barge in the Caledonian canal for Caledonian Discovery www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&… . We get 12 new guests every week from Australia to Canada ..to Bermuda ! I truely understand the meaning of hard work , friendship and percistance .
Also I spent 8 months working as a ski lift operator in a remote ski resort called Nevis Range .
I lost my Dad to cancer , it was a painful experience which still hasn't sunk in fully yet and I doubt it ever will .For someone who fought 16 years through the illness to suddenly be on two weeks notice ...somethings hurt too much to accept.Watching a loved one dissapear infrount of your eyes is a torture no-one deserves to go through. When I left to work in the Highlands , little was I to know this was the last time I would speak to my Dad.
Learning to live again after saying goodbye to my one and only hero has not been easy and continues to be a day by day battle even a year on.I find theres so many things only my dad would understand ;so many unspoken conversations & questions.
On the brighter side of life im now doing MCA Boatmaster training (Skipper training).I think I've truely found a place that feels like home ...think I might just stay a bit longer !
I should upload a few more recent photos and be a bit more online as I am shorebased for next 3 months
